I've been admiring the String shelf for a while now... The shelf was designed by Nils Strinning in 1949 for the Bonnier bookshelf competition. Bonnier wanted a shelf that would be cheap, simple to transport and easy to assemble and hang. Strinning had been thinking of just such a shelf, and the competition became a reason to put thought into action. Naturally the String shelf won first price. It became quickly popular all over Europe, and can nowadays be considered a real Scandinavian design classic.
