A home in Reykjavik

This house lies in the mountains just outside of Reykjavik, and is inhabited by the interior designer Rut Káradóttir and her family. Rut has used mostly natural colors and materials when she renovated the house, and she likes to mix rough and elegant when decorating.

I'm especially fond of the concrete floors, the photo wall and the spa in this house!

Photo walls

I'm planning on creating a photo wall for our new home, with b&w photos and black frames. I haven't yet decided which wall and what photos I'm going to use, but it would be nice to find enough pictures from my own archives; that way the wall could tell a story about our life. Marimekko tea pot

When I first saw this tea pot I instantly fell in love with it. It's the Räsymatto tea pot by Marimekko. The pattern 'Räsymatto' is designed by Maija Louekari, and the tea pot by Sami Ruotsalainen. Today I decided to visit the new Marimekko store in Helsinki, and bring home this teapot with two cups.

Loft in Paris

Architects Karine and Matthieu had been living in this apartment with their kids for ten years, when they were offered a chance to buy it. That's when they decided to renovate. Karine and Matthieu had a clear idea of what needed to be done - most of all they wanted more light and open space. They also wanted to keep things as simple as possible, inspired by their trips to Japan and Alvar Aalto, so they chose to use wood, concrete, beautiful furniture and textiles. And this is the result!

Rest Sofa from Muuto

This beauty is the new Rest Sofa designed by Andersen & Voll for Muuto. The designers describe the sofa like this: "Rest is a sofa series with an inviting and warm appearance. The contrast between the defined back and bottom frame and the soft cushioning tells a story of the comfort that awaits you. Sit back and relax!" I like the sofa, and adore the styling in this photo!

Flooring to die for

This minimalistic apartment is located in the heart of Copenhagen, and the renovation of it was planned by the English architect Anouska Hempel. The beautiful flooring is from Dinesen; the planks are 10 m long and 45 cm wide! Many pieces of furniture in this apartment are made from the same planks, for example the kitchen table, shelves and the coffee tables.

Pure Black by Stelton

Stelton has launched a new knife series called Pure Black, designed by Danish interior designers Sebastian Holmbäck and Ulrik Nordentoft.

"Pure Black knives are forged from one piece of stainless steel so their handles morph effortlessly into their blades. The straightforward design and special coating make the knives very hygienic and easy to clean. At the same time, the matte black coating provides a superb grip and evokes thoughts of fine cooking, beautiful cuts and gourmet dinners." 

These knives won the Formland Design Award Spring 2011, a prestigous Scandinavian design prize.

I have a thing for rocking chairs, especially this one - Mademoiselle designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara in 1956.

A home in an old school building

This apartment is built into an old school building. I love the high ceilings and the huge windows. The flooring is amazing too. The decoration may be a bit too black and white for my personal taste, but it looks good anyway!
